The Sister City program was formed in 1956 as part of the League of Nations.
The Atlanta-Tbilisi sister city committee was formed in 1988. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year. The chairman of the committee at its inception was Brigadier General Thomas L McCullough who is still an active member of the committee. The current chairman of the committee is John Hall. Since the beginning of the Atlanta-Tbilisi committee the two cities have since benefited from each other. Many students, lawyers, educators, doctors, and politicians have come to Atlanta from Tbilisi for educational training and they left here with a wealth of knowledge and many new friends. Committee members have gone to Tbilisi and experience the culture and hospitality and the warmth of the Georgian people. Many committee members still have long lasting relationships with the many people who have come to Atlanta from Tbilisi and we look forward to building new lasting relationships with the people of the country of Georgia and Tbilisi.
